WAKEFIELD, MA — Wakefield will run curbside leaf collection across two days in November beginning this week, the town noted on Saturday.

The first collection date will be Saturday, Nov. 5. A second collection will run on Saturday, Nov. 19. Community members interested in taking advantage of curbside leaf collection should place their yard waste on their curb by 7 a.m. on their pickup day. Waste must be contained in biodegradable paper bags or barrels, as noted in the town’s announcement over the weekend.

Any branches should be cut into lengths no larger than three feet and tied in bundles no larger than 18 inches in diameter.

Leaf collection this week comes alongside a planned mercury collection event at the Nahant Street Yard Waste Site, also known as “the Pit.” Mercury collection will run from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, aiming to help avoid environmental pollution that happens when mercury-containing products end up thrown in the trash or poured down drains.

Correction: An earlier version of this article said mercury collection would take place in Wakefield this week on Saturday. Mercury collection will actually take place on Wednesday.
