Wakefield Food Pantry Is Open and Ready to Serve Those in Need
The WFP asks the community to help fill federal SNAP benefit gaps for our most vulnerable neighbors
With the loss of federal SNAP benefits due to the government shutdown, please know that the Wakefield Food Pantry (WFP) is here to serve our neighbors in need. The WFP team anticipates that this loss in benefits will create an immediate crisis for our most vulnerable neighbors. Recently, we saw a 23% increase in the number of households we serve. We must rely on community support to fill this massive gap.
The WFP is asking you for help to support our neighbors in need. One in every 20 Wakefield residents live in poverty, and they are even more vulnerable to food insecurity when challenged with uncertain times. For families already struggling, this is an immediate crisis, not a policy matter. They may be forced to skip meals, sacrifice nutrition or leave bills unpaid to put food on the table.
Financial donations are extraordinarily important during these times. When the WFP receives financial support, we can work with the Greater Boston Food Bank and others to purchase the most needed items at a reduced cost.
