Wakefield High School Band Earns Historic Finish At Regional Competition
The band qualified for its first Bands of America regional competition finals performance in school history over the weekend.
WAKEFIELD, MA — The Wakefield Memorial High School marching band made history over the weekend with a ninth place finish at the Bands of America regional competition in New Jersey.
The competition marked the first time in school history that a Wakefield marching band qualified for the finals at a Bands of America regional event, as noted on the band’s social media on Saturday afternoon. Wakefield’s eventual finish had the band beating out a number of other schools in a pool of over a dozen entrants.
Wakefield Memorial High School Marching Band musicians headed to Rutgers University in Piscataway, New Jersey to compete in this competition on Saturday.

They were initially scheduled to take the field around 1:30 p.m. A finals qualification then had the band back on the field for another performance later in the day.
2022 has been a dominant year for the Wakefield Marching Band program. Less than week before their showing in New Jersey, the band nabbed a perfect score and a gold medal at the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association State Championships in Quincy.

The program was due back in action close to home on Sunday for the New England Scholastic Band Association Finals in Reading a matter of hours after leaving the field in New Jersey.
They notched a 97.3 score there, good for a platinum medal in their final competitive event of the year.
