Conrad's Doing Brisk Business in First Week

It's been one week since Conrad's opened its doors in Walpole, taking the place of the old Kahana restaurant on Main Street, and according to General Manager Larry Lovejoy things are going well.

“Terrific," Lovejoy said of their first week. "We’ve been really busy. I think we’re getting a lot of people that are trying us out."

The Walpole restaurant is owner Bobby Conrad's second location. After seeing the success of their first eatery in Norwood and with the town wanting to fill the void left by the Kahana, it was a good fit for both parties, according to Lovejoy.

“The town of Walpole, I think, has been looking to make a change in this site for a long time and they approached Bobby about possibly putting in a Conrad’s over here,” he said.

Located in the heart of Walpole at the corner of Route 27 and Route 1A, Conrad's boasts a large dining area, a full bar and will soon have a space open for functions and special events.

“We’re a family-style restaurant, there’s the original Conrad’s in Norwood, and we’re trying to build on family dining," said Lovejoy. "There’s not too many places in Walpole where you can bring your families and have a great time, and also if you’re going out with your spouse or whatnot you can come here and also have a great dinner.”

The Norwood location is well-known for their steak tips which have found their way onto the menu in Walpole.

“Bobby’s built such a great business on those steak tips, it’s a secret recipe for the marinade. But that’s what he built his name on, so we make sure we marinate them for five days so when you get the product it’s exactly what you get in Norwood,” he said.

While Lovejoy admits they have not been perfect, parking in Main Street Shopping Center lot has been hard to come by since their grand opening and they are hoping to keep it that way.

"I guess you get the normal bumps in the road that restaurants have but we’re doing better every day and we hope that sales continue,” he said.
