Destination Downtown has launched a campaign to raise funds for the installation of murals throughout downtown Walpole. The nonprofit organization, whose mission is to vitalize the town’s center, plans to transform neglected alleyways into vibrant, engaging pathways by painting creative, inspirational, and colorful murals on exterior building walls.

Destination Downtown has selected the alleyway between 948 and 954 Main Street for its first mural project. The organization hopes to raise $10,000+ to commission a mural artist and if sufficient funds are collected, install complementary improvements at this location, including lighting, benches and planters, with the aim of encouraging pedestrian traffic and creating a more inviting environment.

“Large public murals will produce a more welcoming atmosphere and turn uninviting, less-traveled alleyways into fun, interactive experiences for residents and visitors of Walpole, making it even easier to enjoy all that Main Street has to offer,” said Sarah Khatib, founder and president of the nonprofit.

Destination Downtown plans to thematically link the murals to Walpole’s history as well as its iconic sites and buildings while celebrating Walpole’s past, present and future. Each mural will reflect the town's narrative as well as be a destination in and of itself.

The project is utilizing Patronicity, a crowdfunding platform which allows donors to give to the mural project at a variety of donation levels ranging from $10 to $2000 or more. Supporters can give at www.patronicity.com/WalpoleMainStreetMurals.
