4. EEE Update from Walpole Board of Health
From the Walpole Board of Health:
Dear Walpole Residents,
The Department of Public Health wants all of our Walpole Residents to know that the aerial application of pesticides in portions of Plymouth and Bristol counties during the week of July 20th have been fairly successful BUT….
- The aerial application of pesticides in portions of Plymouth and Bristol counties does not change the need for people to take personal protective measures- including using repellant, reducing outdoor activities during the dusk and dawn periods, wearing clothing that covers the skin, and dumping standing water.
- Initial results from the aerial spray indicate that there was a reduction in mosquito population of about 60% although this is variable by area and by mosquito species. However, EEE positive mosquitoes are still being found and new mosquitoes are continuing to emerge. Risk from EEE still exists.
- WNV isolations from mosquitoes have been continuing. The previous hot weather with episodic rains has promoted development of WNV and Culex mosquito species.
