Walpole Teen Charged with Motor Vehicle Homicide After Weekend Crash

The 17-year-old driver in the crash was arrested and charged with motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation; the victim was 65 years old.

A Walpole teen was arrested Sunday evening after a head-on car crash on Walpole Street that killed a Canton woman.

Police arrested  Steven R. Walsh,  19, of 11 Saddle Way, Walpole and will charge him with motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation and marked lanes violation. 

Police said Walsh was driving his Chevy Corvette on Walpole Street in the area of Everendon Road toward Walpole just before 6 p.m. on Sunday when his vehicle, crossed the center line and struck a Chevy Trailblazer vehicle head-on.

Canton Police Lt. Helena Findlen said the crash killed a 65-year-old Canton woman, who was driving in the Trailblazer.

"Based on preliminary information, it appears that the operator of the second vehicle, a Chevy Corvette, crossed the center line and hit the trailblazer head on," the Canton Police Department said in a statement.

Walsh and a male passenger in his vehicle were both transported to a Boston area hospital by helicopter with injuries, Findlen said. 

Police are not releasing the name of the victim until they are sure all relatives have been notified. 

The accident is still under investigation by Canton Police Department and the State Police Reconstruction team.
