WALPOLE, MA — Walpole will soon get into the holiday spirit with its traditional parade and downtown tree lighting, and officials are bringing back their initiative to beautify the town center.

The festivities include the annual Walpole Santa Parade and Walpole Tree Lighting Ceremony, and officials from Destination Downtown are hoping to "expand upon an impressive first year of community tree lighting."

The annual parade will start at Walpole High School on Nov. 27 at 11 a.m. It will work its way through Common Street to downtown Walpole and finish at around 12:30 p.m.

Community members are invited to line up along the parade route to welcome Santa Claus, who will be available for a meet and greet at the Town Common after the parade.

Walpole Tree Lighting Ceremony

Later on Nov. 27, starting at 6 p.m. the town's chamber of commerce will host the Walpole Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Walpole Town Common.

Ed Jackowski and carolers will perform holiday music selections, Santa Claus will pose for pictures, and hot chocolate and doughnuts will be served — all to celebrate the lighting of the downtown tree, officials said.

The event is expected to last through around 8:30 p.m.

Winter Lights Fundraiser

Destination Downtown and community members are coming together to "add a little light and magic to the Town Common" this holiday season in continuation of an initiative that began last year.

In 2020 Walpole began a multi-year effort to create a more festive downtown and Town Common after community members expressed interest in the project, town officials said.

"Your gifts will be used to buy new lighting, decorative garlands and make the center of our town more festive for all to see," organizer Mike Verzino said on a GoFundMe page for the initiative. "Our goal is to make this 'a must see' that other towns look to replicate in the years ahead."

Donations can be made through the GoFundMe page or by mailing a check made out to "Walpole Downtown Partnership" to 10 Common St., P.O. Box 838, Walpole, MA 02081.
