Walpole Wins State Fire Safety Grant Of More Than $13 K
The state's Executive Office of Public Safety and Security (EOPSS) and the Department of Fire Services (DFS) announced the award Wednesday.

WALPOLE, MA - The Walpole Fire Department won a state grant of $13,387 from the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security (EOPSS) and the Department of Fire Services (DFS) for the purchase of firefighter safety equipment in FY 22, the administration announced Wednesday.
The opportunity to apply for this grant was available to fire departments in every city, town, fire district, and eligible state authority fire department in the Commonwealth for the purchase of firefighter safety equipment. The total amount of funding available was $5 million, and grants were awarded on a competitive basis.
The maximum amounts of grant funding were determined by the population of the community being served. The maximum amount of grant funding that Walpole could have received was $15,500 because its population is between 5,000 and 9,999. Its current population is 6,119, according to the 2020 U.S. Census.

Neither Walpole Fire Chief Timothy F. Bailey Jr. nor a deputy chief could be reached for comments on the application process or use of the funds despite multiple attempts.
