3 Bentley Golfers Shoot 76 During Day 1 of NCAA Regional

WHEELING, W.V. – Three members of the Bentley University Falcons finished Day 1 of the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Regional with identical scores of 76 Thursday at the Oglebay Bay Special Jones Course. When Thursday’s action was suspended due to weather, they were all tied for 46th in a field of 108.

The trio are all juniors: Evan Desjardins (Salem, N.H./Salem HS), Bennett Berg (Portland, Maine/Portland HS) and Chris Huban (Cohoes, N.Y./Albany Academy). Desjardins had two of the Falcons’ four day one birdies and Huban birdied the 156-yard par-three 15th, as did senior co-captain Timothy Picard (Dracut/Lowell Catholic HS).

Picard finished the day tied for 76th with an eight-over 79.

As a team, Bentley will be 17th of 20 when the first round resumes at 7:30 pm Friday morning. Among teams that completed the first round, the Falcons were eighth of 11 with a 307.

At the top of the team leaderboard when rain it were Gannon University (+5) and Millersville University (+6).

Three players will be at -2 when play resumes, including Gannon’s Michael Wareham (33-36-69). The other two, Gannon’s Shaunak Rama and Glenville State’s Benjamin Fernandez, still need to finish their opening round.

The regional will run through Saturday.
