Artist Charles Suggs Exhibit To Open At Bentley RSM Gallery

The exhibit features Suggs' smoke paintings — black and white portraits of the artist's friends, family and strangers.

WALTHAM, MA — Bentley's RSM Gallery is set to open a new exhibit featuring the artist Charles Suggs and his unique portraiture.

The exhibit features Suggs’ smoke paintings — black and white portraits of the artist’s friends, family and strangers.

In 2018, Suggs learned about drawing with candle smoke while visiting Cape Town, South Africa, according to a news release from the gallery. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, he decided to take time to explore the technique, which has now become a primary medium for the artist.

A reception is scheduled for the gallery on Sept. 28, and the exhibit will be on display from then until Nov. 3. Gallery hours are Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., and 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

The RSM Gallery is located on the main floor of the Bentley University Library.
