Bentley Hall Of Famer Al Harrington Dies At 83

At Bentley, Harrington served as assistant athletic director, assistant men's basketball coach, intramural director and head tennis coach.

WALTHAM, MA — Bentley University Athletic Hall of Famer Al Harrington has died at 83-years-old, the university announced.

A member of the Bentley coaching staff for a decade beginning in 1967, Harrington filled a number of roles during his tenure, including serving as assistant athletic director, assistant men's basketball coach, intramural director and head tennis coach.

He was inducted into the university Hall of Fame in 1992.

The basketball team was 179-73 during his time on the bench and he helped recruit a dozen 1,000-point scorers.

In the late 1970s, Harrington accepted the position of athletic director for the Nashua School District, a role he held until his retirement in 2001.

During his tenure, he presided over one of the most celebrated eras in Nashua athletics, officials said. Among his many accomplishments were the establishment of the school's first weight room, the founding of the Friends of NHS Athletics and the development of summer programs in collaboration with Parks and Recreation.

Harrington will posthumously be inducted into the Nashua Athletics Hall of Fame this spring, an honor announced prior to his passing, officials said.

A time of visitation will be held on Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Ferry St. in Hudson, N.H. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick Church, 29 Spring St. in Nashua.
