Bentley Swimmer Breaks School Record At Weekend Meet

Kenny Ryu set the school record in the 50 breaststroke at the WPI Gompei Invitational over the weekend. The team finished third overall.

WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior Kenny Ryu set the school record in the 50 breaststroke on day three of the WPI Gompei Invitational. The Falcons finished third overall.

As a team, the men and women scored 4468.5 points over the three days to take third place as the meet uses combined scoring.

Ryu's time of 26.33 bested the old mark of 26.46, which was set by Zach Papsco at the 2019 NE10 Championships.

Ryu finished second in the race. Teammate Michael Belpedio won the C final in that event.

Junior Leighton Wielgoszinski won the grueling 1650 free with a time of 16:29.39, which was 12 seconds better than the second place swimmer.

Matt Walden was fourth in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:55.46 and Griffin Keliher was seventh in 1:57.82.

Freshman Alex Yurkewicz won the B final of the 200 back.

Calvin Ye was sixth in the 100 IM (52.95) and Daniel Ivanchikov was fourth in the 200 fly (1:54.34).

The final event of the meet was the mixed 400 free relay and Bentley teams placed fourth and fifth.

The fourth place team consisted of Bella Montanari, Jordan Nuzback, Danny Lehr and Ethan Rehkopf.

In fifth was Madison Capria, Taylor White, Jakub Zukowski and Casey Whittaker.

This was the final meet of the fall semester. The teams will be back in action on Jan. 12 against Saint Michael's at the Dana Center.
