Charges Filed After July Waltham Shooting That Injured 1
Already facing multiple charges, additional firearms charges will be added after police found a gun on the man's waistband during an arrest.

WALTHAM, MA — Waltham police have filed charges against one person in response to a July 12 shooting, officials said.
On July 12, Waltham police responded to a report of a shooting on Lexington Street in the area of the Government Center. The investigation revealed the incident began as a financial dispute and escalated into an attempted extortion when a firearm was brandished, officials said.
The victim sustained a gunshot wound and was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.

Following an "extensive investigation," detectives identified a suspect and sought an arrest warrant for multiple offenses, including assault and battery with a firearm, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, carrying a loaded firearm without a license and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
On July 27, officers located the suspect in the area of Weston Street near the Rotary and took him into custody without incident. During the arrest, a loaded firearm was recovered from the suspect's waistband. Additional firearms charges were filed in response, officials said.

"Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, the suspect's name is not being released at this time," police said.
However, they noted that it appears that the shooting was an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to public safety.
