1 Killed In Waltham Crash On Elm Street

Waltham firefighters said two more were injured in a crash at Elm and Pine streets.

WALTHAM, MA — One person was killed and two others were injured in a crash on Elm Street Tuesday morning, according to police. One man, a 50-year-old from Waltham, was trapped in the wreckage, after the SUV he was in hit a utility pole.

Police said just after 7 a.m. someone reported the crash between a Toyota Rav4 and a Honda SUV near the corner of Elm and Pine street. The crash sent the Honda into a utility pole, trapping a passenger.

"[Firefighters] had to use [cutting equipment] to gain access to one of the victims," Lt. Scott Perry a Waltham Fire Department spokesman told Patch.

The two drivers and the passenger, once he was pulled out of the car, were rushed to Newton-Wellesley hospital. In the immediate aftermath of the crash, firefighters said the passenger suffered potentially life-threatening injuries. Police said in a release that that man later died.

Police said they are investigating the crash. It's not clear yet whether anyone will be cited.
