WALTHAM, MA — The man who founded Crazy Dough's & Oath Craft Pizza and who is a two-time Pizza Expo pizza-making champion and World Master pizza maker - is opening up a new concept restaurant in Waltham. Doug and Melissa Ferriman's Craft Food Hall Project, currently in Lexington, will open a second location in Prospect Hill.

It features a cafeteria-style "food hall" with "five star food" Doug Ferriman told the licensing commission in June.

If you like the burgers at Shake Shack, you'll like the burgers here, said Ferriman. He tracked down where the burger and shake restaurant got theirs in New Jersey, and has plans for a state-of-the art cooking system that will get burgers, steaks and pizza to you quickly.

He plans to open up shop in the first floor a building at 200 Fifth Avenue into a restaurant and space to get a drink, or throw parties, complete with games like corn hole and fusbol and live music from time to time. And it will be big, he expects to seat 154 people in the 7,550 square foot space with 48 outside patio seats.

"This is kind of a dream for us to start a place that everyone can come through," said Ferriman. "Families, baseball teams, foodies, beer lovers, it's not so much as bar - it's more of a food and a culinary driven [space] complimented with beer and wine."

Ferriman said he wants it to be a space where people can gather that's both engaging and casual to serve Prospect Hill and beyond. Eventually he plans to be open for Breakfast at 7 a.m. and stay open until 11 p.m.

When it comes to serving beer and wine, he said he has state of the art pouring equipment that will digitally track how much people are drinking. To drink, you get a special card from a human after showing your ID, and then use that to order your drinks. The machine cuts you off after you've had 32 oz. or two and a half drinks.

Ferriman, who has lived in Waltham for the past eight years, said he expects to employ about 30 people, and aims to give preference to Waltham community members. Hoping to open in September.
