Public Hearings Scheduled For Waltham School Choice, Budget

The two public hearings will happen at the School Committee's Wednesday meeting.

WALTHAM, MA — The School Committee's Wednesday meeting will also feature two important public hearings.

In addition to the regularly scheduled meeting, the School Committee will host two public hearings regarding the Fiscal Year 2025 budget and school choice, respectively.

A draft of the 2025 budget shows a proposed increase of $10.8 million to the general fund. Personnel costs would make up roughly 83 percent of the budget and would include 36 additional full-time positions, the draft budget said.

This comes as the new Waltham High School is slated to open in August 2024 with 1,830 students enrolled.

As for the school choice public hearing, that is scheduled to hear public input about the annual vote deciding whether Waltham will participate in the state school choice program.

That program allows students outside of Waltham to enroll in the local public schools system.

The Wednesday meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Waltham High School, 617 Lexington St.
