Waltham Issues Water Quality Alert

There is no threat to public safety.

Waltham officials announced Thursday night they had discovered coliform bacteria in the city's water supply, but said there was no threat to public safety. 

The coliform bacteria was discovered during hydrant flushing operations to clear the water of any bacteria near 1560 Trapelo Rd, according to a city announcement. To address the issue, additional chlorine was added to the water and flushing operations will continue, according to the announcement. 

Trace amounts of he bacteria were discovered in several water samples. According to the Washington State Department of health, coliform bacteria can be indicators of pathogens in the the water.

The city plans to issue more updates on the issue after additional testing is performed.
