Waltham Man Busted for Unemployment Fraud

The suspect allegedly received $36,000 in unemployment benefits while he was employed.

A Waltham man has been charged with 67 counts unemployment fraud, according to the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office.

William Cotto-Rosario, of Waltham, is facing the charges in connection with allegedly receiving $36,000 in state unemployment benefits from April 2008 to June 2010, according to the AG’s office. During that period, Cotto-Rosario had several employers, but he failed to disclose that fact to the Department of Unemployment Assistance.

Cotto-Rosario allegedly told the department he was not working, but that he was available for employment. During that time, Cotto-Rosario earned $57,000 in from an employer for which he was working.

A Suffolk County grand jury indicted Cotto-Rosario on Thursday, June 13. The charges stem from a larger investigation of unemployment fraud that netted four other defendants.
