Waltham Police Release Video Of Man Wanted In GardenCrest Attacks

More than five people were reported to have been attacked randomly near the GardenCrest apartments in Waltham.

WALTHAM, MA — Waltham police released video footage Saturday of a man they believe is responsible a spate of random attacks in the city that have residents on edge.

"The Waltham Police are looking for the public's assistance in identifying the individual," police posted to social media along with a video. "This person is a suspect in the string of recent assaults around Waltham."

The 4-second video clip shows a man running down the street in jeans and a black sweatshirt.

After police received more than five reports of unprovoked attacks in the GardenCrest apartment complex between Nov. 10 and Nov. 21, the department issued a statement warning residents. On Friday, police issued reverse 911 calls warning residents as the attacks continued.

Police first said the general description has been that the attacker is a Black man between 5"6" and 5"10" weighing between 160 and 180 pounds and wearing dark clothing.

But the reverse 911 call said since the first five people reported assaults, the description of the attacker had changed.

"At this time it is unknown how many perpetrators are involved and responsible for these acts as physical descriptions have varied between white and black males of various heights," police said on the call Friday, warning residents to be aware of their surroundings when out after dark.

The call went on to say; "Extensive resources from the police department are being utilized to solve this case as quickly as possible."

Each of the attacks happened after dark, between 5:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., police said.

Although it's unclear how many attacks are attributed to this person or persons, between Nov. 1 and Nov. 29, there have been 13 reports of assaults across the city, according to police logs, including four on Middlesex Road or circle.

By comparison, during October there were seven reports of assaults in the city: On Alder Street, the 700 block of Main Street, Lake Street, Willow Street, the corner of Adams Street and Chester Avenue, Fourth Avenue and Howard Street.
