West Nile Virus Risk In Waltham Is Now Moderate, State Officials Say

City officials have shared tips on how to best avoid West Nile Virus as the risk level rises in Waltham.

ALERT! The State Department of Public Health has raised the risk level for West Nile Virus (WNV) in Waltham to MODERATE, which means that WNV is likely, or has already occurred in our area.

See attached for more info. Here's what you can do to prevent WNV infection:

  1. Be prepared: Know your risk, check the attached link below regularly for any changes. Be sure to repair screens, clean up your property to get rid of mosquito breeding sites, be aware of stagnant water on private property (unused swimming pools, birdbaths, etc) any questions call the Health Department 781-314-3305.
  2. Wear long sleeves and long pants from dusk to dawn when weather permits.
  3. Use mosquito netting on baby carriages and playpens.
  4. Wear mosquito repellent when outdoors, especially between dusk and dawn.
  5. Dump standing water twice weekly.
