WAYLAND, MA — A new Wayland arts and music festival will return this month, continuing an effort led by two local students that was curtailed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Arts Wayland Expo will feature a lineup of local and national musicians, performing arts, an arts market — plus food trucks and a Castle Island Brewery beer truck.

Boston-based blues band Danielle Miraglia and The Glory Junkies will headline the festival, with performances by Laura Sánchez Flamenco, Sway Island and the Wayland High School Honors Jazz Ensemble.

The Arts Expo got its start in 2019 when Wayland students Joss O'Heron, Ellie Barenboym and Kyra Spooner — who were then in middle school, but are now in high school — got special permission to ask Town Meeting for approval to produce a music festival. Due to the pandemic, the event wasn't held until May 2022.

The Arts Expo will take place May 20 at the town green along Andrew Avenue at the Wayland Town Center. Chris Reynolds is producing the event, and it's being sponsored by Arts Wayland, the Human Rights, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, the town and the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
