A Beautiful New Housing Project is Coming to Cumberland

The Landing hopes to welcome residents from all walks of life

After 18-months of struggling through a complex estate process, the antique Naushon Mills building located at 32 Meeting St in Cumberland, RI is ready to be converted into much needed housing. The apartment project called, The Landing, is expected to offer a variety of unit types and water views with a nice walking area along the Blackstone River. “It took an incredibly dedicated team to navigate not only the estate issues related to the property, but all of the structural concerns. When we got the structural report back and found out we could save the building, we got pumped up to complete the project,” said Anne Brensley, one of the lead developers.

The development team expanded in April and partnered with Property Possible, Inc, a Nashua based development firm, as a co-developer. The team has now retained a full architectural and engineering staff and has hired Pare Corp to handle its wetland and traffic studies.

The development team will be unveiling its renderings for Master Plan approval before July 1st and has given the town some indications of its future plans. “We want this property to be inclusive so we do have built in an affordable housing component. We also hope to attract elderly residents who may particularly like the building’s water views and easily accessible modes of transportation,” stated Michael Lefavor of Property Possible, Inc.

The project is on the National Historic Registry and has submitted applications for both Federal and State credits. In addition, the project has applied for low-income housing tax credits through Rhode Island Housing’s One Stop Application. “The town has worked very collaboratively with us so our hope is to continue to garner support for the project. With the State’s housing shortage, this could give a diverse demographic of occupants an opportunity to live in a fully renovated mill building on the water,” added Mrs. Brensley.

The project is expected to start renovations toward the 4th quarter of 2023.
