Jane Lopez, Educator and Loving Grandmother Dies at 73
Jane Lopez spent her life educating people in need and sharing her experiences with numerous friends and family members.

Jane (Ludwig) Lopez, age 73, of Wayland and Boston (formerly of Bingham and Solon, ME) passed away on July 22, 2023. Loving mother of Jesse (Julia) Lopez; devoted grandmother of Seph, Catalina and Adrian; dear sister of Jim (Linda) Ludwig, Ted (Mary Jean) Ludwig, Nancy Ludwig and Linda (Jim) Burd; loving aunt to many nieces and nephews; best friend of long-time domestic partner Chris Wright; step-mother to Jake Wright and Lyla (Colin) Glass; and dear friend to her former partner Steve Edelheit. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary Carolyn Ludwig and her ex-husband, William Lopez.
Jane was born September 24, 1949 in Pittsburgh, PA and attended Penn State University and the University of Massachusetts Boston. She received a Masters degree in Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Jane’s first teaching job was in an inner-city Boston school, where her principal feared for her safety. Most of her teaching career was in rural Maine, where she taught different grades and ages as a classroom teacher, and as a reading specialist. She also taught special education and life skills. After full retirement, Jane moved to Boston to be closer to her grandchildren. Later in life she was trained as a Davis practitioner and worked one-on-one with adults and children with dyslexia and ADD.

Jane strived to experience and see everything the world had to offer. She appreciated everyone and everything around her and had unbounded love in her heart. She was cherished as a great listener and beloved as a great teacher.
Jane’s passions included singing with the Mystic Chorale and the Joyful Voices of Inspiration Gospel choir. Jane most loved spending time with her grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held for Jane. Donations in Jane’s memory may be given to Friends of Mount Auburn Cemetery, a place where she loved to walk, and where her ashes will be interred.
