WAYLAND, MA — A new farm stand in Wayland years in the making has opened, selling flowers and other goods with a lesson for local young people.

Plans surfaced almost two years ago for a rejuvenation of the Lee's Farm stand along Route 20 near Pine Brook Road. The plans called for a new farm stand offering local students the chance to sell flowers as a lesson in business.

The company behind the new stand, Sensational Teens for Entrepreneurial Mentorship (STEMS), grew over 1,000 Dahlia flowers offsite and is now selling them at the Route 20 stand alongside other goods, including Wayland-made pottery. STEMS was founded by former Wayland High School graduate Catherine McGonagle.

The new development also includes a rebuilt barn that will host community and private events. The barn rebuild will also be featured on an upcoming episode of HGTV’s "Farmhouse Fixer."

The new development is part of the Carriage House at Lee's Farm senior living development set farther back from Route 20. A portion of proceeds from flower sales will go to The Compassionate Caregivers Fund, a nonprofit that helps employees of Northbridge Communities, the owner of the Carriage House at Lee's Farm.
