WAYLAND, MA — A new proposal before the Wayland Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) could mean new life for a long closed farm stand.

A nonprofit called Farm Stand Acquisitions LLC has applied to reopen a stand at the 136 Boston Post Road site. One aspect of the proposal calls for a partnership with Wayland Public Schools where students would help grow and sell flowers at the site, according to plans.

"Other uses contemplated for the property include activities designed to market to and bring the public to a farm for farm-related educational experience by displaying a combination of the farm setting and products of the farming operation, with the ultimate goal to encourage the purchase of agriculture products," the application says.

The nonprofit would also construct a new barn on the property and rebuild a parking area.

The former Lee's Farm site contains an assisted living facility that was built starting in 2012. That same year, a group of residents proposed rebuilding the shuttered farm stand with a community agricultural facility. The farm stand site is about 4.6 acres and sits directly on Route 20.

The Wayland ZBA will hear the full proposal for the Lee's Farm site on Tuesday beginning at 7 p.m.
