If you enjoy finding current reading recommendations from reviews that appear in magazines like the New York Review of Books, you have something in common with Wayland Library home delivery patron Reyhan Larimer. Reyhan likes to keep track of current book publishers, follow author talk panels online, is part of a local book club and as a result she has a long reading list. Reyhan currently has more time to read after retiring from a long career in architecture. She worked for Yale University for many years as a campus planner. While at Yale, Reyhan led groups of architects, engineers, contractors and other professionals in designing new buildings for the Yale School of Medicine. As a project planner/architect, she worked with scientists in laying out research labs to accommodate their research needs. Prior to Yale, Reyhan worked for the University of Pennsylvania doing historic restorations of campus buildings and in prominent architect’s offices in Philadelphia.
Reyhan moved to Wayland from New Haven Connecticut 4 ½ years ago. She found Wayland to be a lovely peaceful community with beautiful conservation areas explaining that it was Wayland’s landscape that most attracted her to the town. Retirement from a very busy career in architecture has finally allowed Reyhan to have time to read for fun. She enjoys reading current literary fiction, nonfiction, biographies, international stories, current events, people’s migration stories and also books on art and music history. Reyhan listed lots of current authors, whose work she follows, including Percival Everett, Paul lynch, Jhumpa Lahiri, Rachel Cusk, Rachel Kushner and recommended one of her most favorite recent reads, Trust by Hernan Diaz. Reyhan first heard about the library’s home delivery service, Library On the Go, through the weekly e-newsletter. She was able to call the library directly and sign up easily over the phone, mentioning how helpful the library staff is and usually they are able to help her find whichever titles she is looking for. Reyhan describes the Library On the Go service as “invaluable” allowing her to keep up with her reading schedule and the impact it has had on her life has been wonderful. Reyhan explains it is very beneficial to help people who can’t get to the library to have the Library On the Go service so patrons can keep accessing materials and she would encourage anyone to sign up that can’t make to the library.
