Plans Brewing To Bring Beer Garden To Wayland This Summer

The beer gardens at the Wayland Town Center may be held close to the Mass Central Rail Trail, the first such amenity along that section.

WAYLAND, MA — The Wayland Economic Development Committee is hopping toward a series of weekend beer garden events at the Wayland Town Center this summer.

The committee is in talks with a yet-unnamed brewer, who would bring beer trucks to the Route 20 mixed-use center for the events. The Local restaurant has joined the mash to provide food, according to the committee.

The economic development committee, whose members are charged with expanding commerce in town, discussed plans for the beer garden events at the Feb. 10 meeting. While the brewer and food provider are likely in place, the final piece will be to figure where on the Town Center the gardens will be located.

The committee has discussed using parts of the Town Center parking lot near the end of the Mass Central Rail Trail. If all goes according to plan, the Wayland beer garden events would be the only ones of their kind along that section of the trail — and would allow locals to walk, bike, roll or jog rather than drive.

Committee Chair Rebecca Stanizzi said the plan is to have up to three beer garden events over the summer with the first one possible in June.

Other local towns host similar events during warmer months. In Ashland, the Corner Spot brings pop-up events, including brewers, to an enclosed park during the summer. Last summer, Marlborough began offering space to local brewers at the city's weekly summer concert series.
