Local Food Pantry Moves To Wayland

The organization gives out more than 30,000 bags of food annually.

WAYLAND, MA — A food pantry is moving to Wayland after operating in a nearby town for more than three decades.

The Sudbury Community Food Pantry purchased a new building in Wayland. The organization, which serves 85 cities and towns and distributes over 30,000 bags of food annually, will move to 534 Boston Post Rd.

Right now, SCFP can be found at the Lady of Fatima/Ascension Church on Concord Rd in Sudbury. But the food pantry hopes the new, larger space can help increase workflow for their 175 volunteers and allow the organization to serve more people in need.

The new building is undergoing renovations, which SCFP hopes are complete by the end of July. The food pantry will eventually move to its new home in mid-August.

SCFP said it was able to buy the building without a mortgage because of generous donations from a local philanthropist and contributions from professionals and businesses in the area.

“Despite the pandemic, skyrocketing need, and a shift in the space needs of our existing landlord, our board and volunteers refused to back down,” said John Thomas, the Executive Director of SCFP. “Instead, we rallied and found a permanent home.”
