WAYLAND, MA — Wayland has waited patiently for its cream cheese for eighteen months, but now the time has come: the Wayland Bagel Table has opened.

The bagel shop opened quietly on Friday in the former Panera Bread space at 21 Andrew Ave. Plans for the store were first revealed in January 2020 — but like so many things, the opening was delayed by the pandemic.

The local chain, founded by Ed Eglitis and Curt Leiden, pushed forward with its MetroWest expansion in 2020, opening a café in downtown Natick at the end of last year. The Natick store was the Bagel Table's second in MetroWest after Ashland. There are also locations in Boston and Chestnut Hill.

Eglitis and Leiden began opening stores in 2018 after selling their bagels at farmers markets (including in Ashland) across the region for years. Bagel Table sells New York-style bagels that are "crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside," plus bagel sandwiches, pastries and to-go items like cream cheese and salad. The chain also custom roasts its own coffee.

The Wayland location is here just in time for the weekend coffee-and-bagel rush. The store will be open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
