Wayland Firefighters Get Thousands From State For Safety Gear
More than 300 departments across the state shared in $5 million grants this week.

WAYLAND, MA — The Wayland Fire Department will get a piece of about $5 million in grants handed out by state officials last week to upgrade safety equipment, according to Chief Neil McPherson.
Wayland will be able to use its approximately $19,000 grant to buy a variety of safety equipment. The department plans to use the money to buy personal protective equipment, mobile radio repeaters and life safety ropes, according to McPherson.
Fire departments can apply for grants from the state's four-year-old Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant program each year. About 321 departments received grants this week across the state.
