Wayland Has 3 Finalists For Assistant Superintendent Job

WAYLAND, MA — A committee assembled to find Wayland's next assistant superintendent has landed on three finalists, according to a letter sent to the school district community on Tuesday.

Assistant Superintendent Parry Graham — who also took over as Wayland's acting superintendent when Omar Easy was put on leave — has been hired to become the new superintendent in Lincoln. He'll start the new job in July, leaving Wayland without a No. 2 district leader.

In a letter Tuesday, Graham said the following candidates have been chosen as finalists to take over for him:

Betsy Gavron — The Wayland Middle School principal since 2010. Gavron had previously announced that she would take a one-year sabbatical from that role at the middle school over the 2023-24 school year.

Brian Ackerman — The Dudley-Charlton Regional School District Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning. Ackerman also worked as a principal at elementary schools in West Warwick, RI, and West Greenwich, RI.

Jodi Fortuna — The principal of the Young Achievers K-8 Math and Science Pilot School in Boston. Fortuna was also an assistant superintendent in Boston Public Schools, and the former Hudson Public Schools superintendent.

Graham said he would schedule time after next week's spring vacation week for the finalists to meet with families and district staff.

Wayland is in the midst of several searches for top leadership roles. The Wayland School Committee is in the midst of interviewing candidates to become the interim superintendent for one year. Five candidates have been identified for that job.
