Wayland Men Arrested In Home Repair Scheme: Police

The two Wayland residents are facing charges including conspiracy and stealing from someone over age 60.

WAYLAND, MA — Two Wayland men were arrested and charged this week in a home repair scheme that bled at least one local homeowner out of about $100,000, according to police.

Hughie Antony O'Donoghue, 24, and Michael Nevin, 24, were both charged on Tuesday with conspiracy, operating as unlicensed home contractors and larceny over $1,200 from a victim over age 60, according to Maynard police.

According to police, O'Donoghue and Nevin were pretending to be contractors in the area, and charged local residents for work they never completed.

"As a result, an older Maynard resident fell victim to the scam and lost more than $100,000," Maynard police said in a news release.

The two men also had warrants out for the arrest in Ireland, but police did not say what the warrants were for.

Nevin and O'Donoghue were arraigned at Concord District Court ordered held on $15,000 bail each. The pair also surrendered their passports and will have to wear GPS trackers.

The investigation into the home repair scheme involved police from Brockton, Braintree and Wayland, Maynard police said.
