Wayland Police Help Make Annual Toy Drive Successful

Wayland's officers took part in "Shop with a Cop" for a third successful year and helped gift nearly 600 children with toys.

WAYLAND, MA - The Wayland Police Department helped provide almost 600 children with toys during this year’s “Shop with a Cop” event.

On Wednesday, Dec. 18, over 50 members of the Wayland Police Department volunteered to spend the day shopping with local children at the Framingham Walmart. Each child was given $50 to spend on whatever toys they wanted, and got to hang out with an officer while they shopped.

“Myself and the Wayland Police Department would like to thank our community partners, fellow law enforcement agencies and Walmart employees for helping this event run efficiently,” Chief of Police Ed Burman said.

The event has been running since 2015 when the Framingham Police Department started it. Wayland’s police force joined it three years ago, and it’s expanded to include officers from Milford, Westborough, Concord and many other communities around the Commonwealth.

“[Everyone’s] support has helped many children in need experience holiday joy this season,” Burman said.
