WAYLAND, MA — Wayland is paving the future of Route 20, and wants your input.

The town is creating a master plan for the speedy stretch of car-centric road near the town center development. An upcoming public forum will offer a different view of the space, enhanced with new connections and safety features for other users, like pedestrians and bicyclists.

"Multiple town boards are collaborating on an effort to create a renewed vision for the existing Route 20 commercial area that promotes an economically and socially vibrant, unified, 'New England Village' town center. A major goal is to reduce Route 20’s dividing impact and provide increased connectivity and safety for pedestrians and bicyclists throughout the area," the town said in announcing the forum.

The forum will offer examples of ways the town can reshape the area around the Route 20, Route 27 and Route 126 area — which will soon be home to a new community center — and residents will be able to offer feedback.

Wayland's town center area is also the current terminus of a section of the Mass Central Rail Trail. The state Department of Conservation and Recreation is planning to extend the trail through Sudbury along a former rail corridor.

"Please bring your ideas and preferences for future development so that together we can craft a viable master plan for the Route 20 corridor," the town said.

The forum will be held online on Feb. 28 beginning at 7 p.m. Find the Zoom link here.
