Wayland Reveals 2022 Flu Clinic Dates
High flu rates during the Southern Hemisphere flu season could mean a resurgence of the virus here this winter.

WAYLAND, MA — Flu season is fast approaching, and some health experts say it could be worse in 2022-23 than the previous two flu seasons that were reduced due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Wayland will offer three town-sponsored flu shot clinics this fall in the lead-up to the peak of flu season around the December holidays and the first few months of the new year.
Flu vaccines are available to anyone over 6 months old. Wayland Health Director Julia Junghanns said in a news release that October is the best time to get a shot to stay protected for the entire flu season.

Flu season in the Northern Hemisphere typically lasts between October and April. But the Southern Hemisphere is just ending its 2022 flu season. Countries like Australia have recorded some of the worst flu seasons in recent years, an indicator of possible virus trends.
The flu seasons in 2020 and 2021 were some of the mildest in the Northern Hemisphere in recent years — largely due to precautions like masking and social distancing put in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Correction: An earlier version of this story had the incorrect date for the Oct. 12 clinic.
