A Wayland Veterinarian Wants to Keep Ticks Off Dogs...in Thailand
This Wayland resident is raising money to help buy tick prevention for the dogs of Thailand.

WAYLAND, MA—A Wayland veterinarian who has been doing volunteer work at an animal sanctuary in Thailand since 2015. Amy Shroff, who is also a biologest and animal activist, volunteers at Elephant Nature Park. The park was developed for elephants, but since floods in Bangkok in 2011, the park is now how to more than 420 dogs.
The park is also unfortunately home to thousands of ticks. As Shroff explains in her GoFundMe page, ticks in Thailand carry life threatening diseases such as Ehrlichia, Anaplasma, and Neospora. These illnesses can cause fever, bruising blood loss, vomiting, weight loss, paralysis and even death.
Shroff, who was an honorary producer of "Gods in Shackles," a documentary about ending elephant suffering, wants to raise money to help diminish the tick problem at the Elephant park.
