Wayland's Annual Lydia Maria Child Award Now Taking Nominations

The annual award, given to a Wayland resident with an exemplary body of volunteer and leadership award, is now open for nominations.

WAYLAND, MA - The Wayland Public Ceremonies Committee is seeking nominations for its 2025 Lydia Maria Child Award.

The annual prize is given to a Wayland resident, local group, organization or employee in recognition for their volunteer and leadership within the community.

Lydia Maria Child lived in Wayland during the mid-19th century, and she's known as a national heroine for her work as an abolitionist, women's and human's rights activist, novelist and journalist. She's also revered for her famous poem "Over the River and Through the Wood."

All Wayland residents are encouraged to submit nominations for the award. The deadline for consideration is Monday, Feb. 10. Submissions are limited to 500 words or fewer, and they must include contact information.

Last year, Gretchen Schuler was awarded the honor for her role in the preservation of Mainstone Farm, her time on various Wayland planning boards, commissions and committees and her volunteer work with the town historical society.

The winner will be announced at Wayland's Annual Town Hall meeting on April 7.
