ADULT SERVICES
Book Club in a Bag
Instead of trying to round up copies of your next book club selection, grab one of our bags stocked with popular titles. The latest additions are Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus and Tom Lake by Ann Patchett. Each sturdy tote has 7-10 copies of each book and circulates for six weeks—ample time to read. Plan Your Vacation with the Library
If you prefer a guidebook to hold in your hand, we have a terrific selection on our Travel shelves. If digital is your thing, Lonely Planet guides are now always available on Libby. SUMMER READING
Our 2024 Summer Reading Program Read, Renew, Repeat has started. Programming highlights include making a Chain Reaction “Rube Goldberg machine” with teaching artist Jay Mankita, a family concert with Rolie Polie Guacamole, as well as many fun craft and STEM challenges. Kids can track their reading online or on paper logs to earn tickets for prizes. Teen programming highlights include yarn storming and Mexican metal tooling. Teens can also track their reading to earn tickets for prizes.

The Massachusetts Statewide Summer Library Program is funded by the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins, and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. Additional funding for Wayland’s Summer Reading program came from the Friends of the Wayland Public Library, the Wayland Cultural Council, and the Arthur Ashley Williams Foundation.

Outdoor Baby & Toddler Storytime with Ms. Abby
Our Baby & Toddler program moves outside! Weather permitting, we will meet outside on the green lawn. Please register. Tuesdays, July 23, and July 30 at 10:30 a.m.
Music, Story, Fun! with Ms. Janet
Join Ms. Janet for a musical storytime. She’ll bring her ukulele, rainbow bells, and puppets! We will meet in the Children’s Room. For ages birth through age 4, with caregivers. Please register. Thursday, July 25 at 10:30 a.m.
FOR ELEMENTARY AGE CHILDREN
Art Club & Creative Writing
Do you like to write and illustrate your own stories? In this class, led by Wayland parent Emily Kristofek, students will compose a fictional story around a theme, and create one or more pictures to illustrate the story. We will share and celebrate our creations at the end of each class. For children ages 9 and up. Please register HERE. Tuesday, July 23, at 4:30 p.m.
Chain Reactions with Jay Mankita of Playful Engineers
Jay Mankita of Playful Engineers will present this workshop in which children will design, build and test Rube Goldberg machines and other chain reactions! For ages 4 & up, with caregiver. Meets on the lawn, weather permitting. Please register HERE. Wednesday, July 24, at 3:00 p.m.
Build a Rubber Band Race Car
Join Ms. Abby to learn how to use recycled materials to create a speedy, rubber band-powered race car! Participants will leave with their own car to race at home. For children in grades 1 through 3, with caregiver. Please register HERE. Thursday, July 25, at 3:30 p.m.
Collaborative Outdoor Chalk Mural
Mexican artist Diego Rivera painted murals on building walls all over Mexico! Ms. Abby will read Diego Rivera: His World and Ours by Duncan Tonatiuh. Then we will create our own sidewalk chalk mural outside to represent what we love in nature. For children in grades 1 through 3, with caregiver. Please register HERE. All About Bees with Sudbury Bees
Sophia Trevino of Sudbury Bees will read a story about bees, show children a beehive observatory and honey wax, and share some of the fascinating details of a bee’s life! Children will then paint a beehive, using bubble wrap and tempura paint. For ages 4 and up, with caregiver. Please register HERE. Thursday, August 1, at 3:30 pm.
FOR TEENS
Yarn Storming
Teens! Join us for a two-session yarn storming experience. We will beautify the library’s chain-link fence by wrapping it in colorful yarn. Session 1 will be devoted to designing and in Session 2 we will install the art on the fence. For teens in grades 6 and up. Session 1 meets in the Teen Loft and Session 2 meets outside. TWO MORE VIRTUAL YOUTH AUTHOR TALKS IN JULY
Elizabeth Acevedo. In this exciting author conversation, Acevedo will provide a short reading from her novel-in-verse, The Poet X. Virtual: Register. Tuesday, July 23, at 2 p.m.
Dan Santat. This year’s winner of the National Book Award for Young People's Literature inspires tweens and teens to tell their own stories through graphic novels. Virtual: Register. Tuesday, July 30, at 2 p.m.
