WESTBOROUGH, MA — A fundraiser has been set up to assist the Westborough family displaced by a large fire along Adams Street Friday.

The fire broke out around 6:30 a.m. Friday, possibly due to an electrical cord overloaded by a space heater, the Westborough Fire Department has said.

A woman in the home was able to escape with the family dog, and was the only person inside when the fire broke out, according to the family.

"Feb. 24, our childhood home on Adams Street caught fire. Our father, Paul, was away but our fast acting mother, Beth, grabbed the dog and got out as quickly as possible," fundraiser organizer Matthew Travis wrote on a GoFundMe page. "We watched as the house we were raised in, and now a second home to our children, Beth and Paul’s seven grandchildren, quickly engulfed in flames and burned down."

As of Thursday, the fundraiser had raised more than $33,000 for the Travis family against a goal of $25,000. The family also reported receiving other support from the community, including food and clothing.
