Westborough Community Band Brings Crowd to the Movies

Some iconic movie songs were part of Sunday night's concert.

Visitors to Westborough's Bay State Green on Sunday night heard echoes of Kermit the Frog singing, and of Christopher Reeve flying as Superman.

The Westborough Community Band's third concert of the summer included some renditions of iconic movie songs, such as "Rainbow Connection" from "The Muppet Movie," as well as the classic John Williams song from "Superman: The Movie."

The Superman song was part of a medley of Williams selections from "Star Wars", "E.T.: the Extra-Terrestrial" and "Jurassic Park," band conductor Matthew Lefebvre noted.

The band opened the concert with "The National Emblem March," composed by Edwin Bagley.

"John Philip Sousa considered this to be one of the finest marches ever written," Lefebvre said.

The band followed with "American Civil War Fantasy," by Jerry Bilik, featuring a collection of folk songs such as "When Johnny Comes Marching Home."
