Halloween Guidance For Weston

'Place Halloween candy on trays or platters rather than in bowls to minimize the number of times candy is touched.'

October 24, 2020

With Mercury retrograde and a full moon, it's best to play it safe on the 31st and leave the spooky stuff to the evening. So, Weston's Public Health Department has put together some guidance to help parents navigate the evening safely for their children.

Hey Kids! - Get out there and have fun trick or treatin' this year but we want you to be a little more cautious while you're out there to make sure the evening is memorable and fun:

  • Celebrate outside rather than indoors
  • Go out in small groups, such as your friend bubble or class cohort
  • Maintain a 6-foot distance from other family groups
  • Carry hand sanitizer and use it frequently
  • When choosing a candy from a bowl choose your candy with your eyes first then pick that one piece. Avoid touching all the candy!
  • Do not eat any candy until you can wash your hands

Hi Adults! - Our public health team put together this flyer with some more guidance to help you keep the spirit of Halloween alive. Here is a sampling:

  • Place Halloween candy on trays or platters rather than in bowls to minimize the number of times candy is touched
  • Opt for one-way trick-or-treating, with treats placed outdoors on tables for β€˜grab and go’ while keeping distance from others. Homeowners can encourage the fun and celebrate the evening from a safe distance in their own yards
  • Leave hand sanitizer by the treats for visitors to use

It's a Bit Different This Year

We've received a few requests from residents asking for kids to stick to their own neighborhoods/areas and this is only to help minimize crowds in the more popular neighborhoods (you know which ones).

Please understand a few of our neighbors may be uncomfortable with opening their doors this year so they may choose not to hand out candy. They will either leave their house lights off or they will leave a tray out with a sign that says "take one, please."
