Home Sales Up in Weston, But Prices Remain Lower

Much like the rest of the state, Weston saw an uptick in single-family home sales in July 2011, reversing a five-month trend of declining home sales.

Weston's home sales in July 2011 increased by more than 50 percent over July 2010, new figures from The Warren Group revealed on Tuesday.

"While it's encouraging to see sales rise in July, we're comparing statistics to a very rough month of July last year," said Banker & Tradesman Managing Editor Cory S. Hopkins in a statement. "The expiration of the homebuyer tax credits hurt sales volume a year ago, which is skewing the actual picture of the market now."

Year-to-date home sales in Weston are also up in 2011 versus 2010, though slightly, at nearly 4 percent.

Both the July median sale price and the year-to-date median sale price are down from 2010, about 30 percent and 10 percent respectively.

Statewide, the sale of homes in Massachusetts is down about 16 percent year-to-date, and up about 7 percent from last July.
