Weston Plans Annual Veterans Day Festivities

The bell tolls to honor Americans, especially the six from Weston.

WESTON, MAβ€”At the eleventh month, on the eleventh day at the eleventh hour in France, an armistice was signed, officially ending WWI. This year, Weston is commemorating the anniversary of this with two events on Nov. 11.

At 11 a.m. Weston churches join the nationwide bell-tolling to honor Americans who served in the "Great War" 100 years ago, especially the 116,516 who died, six of them from Weston. A short ceremony follows at the flagpole outside Town Hall.

Then at 1 p.m., Rick Wohlers coordinates a special program at the Town Hall Auditorium that features speeches and choral music.

"Veterans Day is a time to honor all veterans of the armed services," said the announcement. "It is also a day to be proud that we are citizens of a nation made great by the sacrifices and courage of all our military personnel, both at home and abroad."
