Weston Storm Center: Commuter Rail Remains Suspended, No Word on Schools Yet

[11 a.m.] The commuter rail will remain suspended today, though some MBTA services are expeted to resume at 2 p.m. More details on the MBTA situation.

[10:40 a.m.] The MBTA will remain shut down throughout Sunday, and officials are saying the hope it's up and running for Monday morning's commute. More details on the MBTA situation.

In other transportation news, Logan Airport is digging out and some flights are getting in and out of Boston. Call ahead to check on your flight if you have one scheduled today.

As for Weston Public Schools, there's no word yet on whether schools will be in session tomorrow. We will keep you posted.

[5:30 p.m.] The driving ban ended at 4 p.m., and Patch took a trip through the main roads of Weston to assess the situation.

• Route 20 is in good shape from Rte. 128 all the way through Wayland.
• Route 30, however, is still a bit treacherous. The road is mostly snow coated.
• A handful of families were giving the sledding hill at Weston Town Green a shot, but there's almost too much snow for sledding right now. The industrious few had to forge some runs of their own. (Video coming soon).
• The snow banks are high and the roads are narrow. Turning is a bit blind at times, so take it slow if you do go out.

• And a request from the Weston Fire Department: Clear a 3-foot berth around the nearest fire hydrant.

[1:51 p.m.] We're beginning to hear about church services being canceled for Sunday. If you know of canceled services, please add that information to our "List of Cancellations and Closings."

[12:55 p.m.] Driving ban lifted for Weston at 4 p.m.

"Please still stay off the roads unless necessary to allow plows, utility crews & safety officials to clear streets & restore power," Gov. Deval Patrick said via Twitter.

[12:45 p.m.] Blizzard warning lifted for Weston. BUT:

"A period of rain is possible Monday," according to a Hazardous Weather Outlook posted by the National Weather Service. "This may result in addtional weight to roofs/snowloading with the already 1-2 feet of snowfall."

[12:28 p.m.] Updates and reminders:

• Clear snow from around your nearby fire hydrants.
• Clear snow from heating vents AND tailpipes of cars to avoid carbon monixide buildup. The Weston Fire Department has responded to at least one CO incident, according to the department's Facebook page.
• The driving ban remains in effect, so please stay off the roads.
• No mail delivery in Weston or throughout New England today.
• Check on your elderly or disabled neighbors as you begin to shovel out.

[10:10 a.m.] According to the Weston Fire Department Facebook page:

Weston has received roughly 20-24" of snow -- very tough to measure because of all the blowing and drifting snow! DPW crews are opening major roadways but side streets are still virtually impassable, the DPW is working very hard to clear the streets!! Driving Ban is still in effect! Let the crews do their work!

[9:25 a.m.] Police Chief Steven Shaw tells Patch that "everything continues to go well."

Shaw said that there are people calling the police station to ask whether they can drive somewhere.

"Our position is that we're advising people to stay off the roads for safety," Shaw said.

WCVB is reporting that MEMA is expecting the governor's travel ban to remain in place throughout the day. The order does carry a possible fine and even jail time for individuals who violate the terms.

[8:45 a.m.] According to the Boston Herald, mail service has been suspended for today.

[8:25 a.m.] The worst of it has passed. You no doubt woke up this morning to some pretty incredble snow in your yard ... not to mention human-sized snow drifts.

As for power outages, looks like Weston made it through. The Nstar power outage map still shows just one outage in town.

Before you get too excited about getting out, the driving ban REMAINS in effect indefinitely. Please stay off the roads so crews can work.

Additionally, the MBTA will not be up and going today. Current estimates are saying it could be Monday before the transit system is recovered enought to operate.

In other words, stay put!

[11:30 p.m.] After a crazy day of snow and wind, Weston remains an obvious minor blip on the Nstar outage map. (Just one outage as of 11:30 p.m.)

It's been very quiet today in Weston, by all accounts.

"People stayed off the roads like they were supposed to and the power stayed on," said Police Chief Steven Shaw.

One note, that executive order forbidding vehicle travel does NOT have an end time. Until further notice, that executive order stands.

[6:35 p.m.] Seems like the power situation is holding steady, on a positive note. There are NO power outages in Weston, according to the Nstar map.

We are now seeing that the Weston Public Library will be closed tomorrow, Saturday.

[2:45 p.m.] Boston Bruins home game on Saturday has been pushed from a 1 p.m. to a 7 p.m. start.

[2:05 p.m.] Three-car crash with entrapment at South Avenue and Oak Street. We'll update this story as more info becomes available. Be safe and remember that a ALL traffic ban goes into effect at 4 p.m. today.

[12:50 p.m.] In a press conference from the Framingham Massachusetts Emergency Management bunker, Gov. Deval Patrick announced that all traffic must be off the roads by 4 p.m.

"I have signed an executive order banning vehicle traffic effective at 4 p.m. today," Patrick said. He had already declared a state of emergency as of noon today.

"Please, please exercise caution and use commone sense," Patrick said about getting out after the storm subsides. He said snow drifts as high as 5 feet are expected.

"There are hazards under this winter wonderland," Patrick said.

[12:23 p.m.] The Special Olympics basketball game scheduled for Sunday at Weston High School has been canceled due to the storm.

"Unfortunately, there are no plans to reschedule," according to the announcement. "Thanks to all the sponsors and volunteers!"

[10:30 a.m.] The latest forecast shows Weston could be in for more than 3 feet of snow before all is said and done Saturday afternoon. Here are the details.

[8:05 a.m.] Gov. Patrick has asked everyone to be off the roads by noon today and DON'T FORGET: The MBTA will suspend service (buses, trains and commuter rail) as of 3:30 p.m.
