5 Things: Highland Hash Fun Run; and Reducing Gun Violence Discussion

On Sunday there will be a community forum - 'Reducing Gun Violence. Where do we go from here?' with a presentation by Nancy Robinson, executive director of Citizens for Safety.

 

  1. On Saturday is a Highland Hash Spring Fun with the Parkway Running Club at 2 p.m. at Porter Cafe with Backlash Beer (Holyoke, MA). At each Fun Run, participants will meet at the venue at the time listed, where they can choose from either a 2.5-mile or 5 mile route based on their skill level. Each route will end back at the venue, with light appetizers and locally brewed craft beer for 90 minutes following the run. Every runner gets a pint of the featured beer at the finish, compliments of WRMS, and Parkway Running Club is generously providing the food at the event.
  2. On Sunday there will be a community forum -- "Reducing Gun Violence. Where do we go from here?" Presentation by Nancy Robinson, Executive Director of Citizens for Safety, a local non-profit working to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and youth obtained through the illegal gun market. Other speakers will address pending gun legislation at the state level. Sponsored by Temple Hillel B’nai Torah and the Advocates for Safe and Sound Gun Policy. Come learn what steps you can take to help make our families and communities safer. 7-9 p.m. Temple Hillel B’nai Torah. Open to everyone.
  3. Have you seen the movie 'The Life of Pi' yet? The Arabic Evangelical Baptist Church is showing it in a free movie night open to all on Saturday night. Refreshments and popcorn will be served. 7:30 p.m.
  4. From May 8 through May 19 (weather permitting), the VFW Parkway/Providence Highway corridor from Dedham into West Roxbury will be resurfaced at night. Lane closures are expected.
