City, State Officials to Hold Community Meeting on West Roxbury Crushed Stone This Week

A community meeting will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at which city and state officials, as well as local residents, will gather to discuss the West Roxbury Crushed Stone plant, according to an announcement sent out by city officials.

West Roxbury Crushed Stone has been at the center of debate this year as it seeks to bring in outside materials to fill a 350-foot deep quarry on its property.

Officials and community member have expressed concerns regarding the implications the effort may have on traffic in the area, as well as safety and on the community overall.

Plant representatives, however, have maintained that any materials used would include below RCS-1 level soils, or the acceptable threshold of soils by the state.

Wednesday’s community meeting will feature input from Boston Mayor Martin Walsh, Congressman Stephen Lynch, State Sen. Mike Rush (D-West Roxbury), State Rep. Ed Coppinger (D-Boston), State Rep. Angelo Scaccia (D Readville) and Boston City Councilor Matt O’Malley (District 6) will all be on hand to discuss the plant’s efforts.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at the West Roxbury Elks Hall, 1 Morrell St. in West Roxbury.
