Havey Beach Revitalization Petition Started by Parkway People Organization

Back in the day West Roxbury's Havey Beach was a spot for swimming and boating on the Charles River, and a petition is circulating to reopen it for community boating.

Led by the Parkway People organization, which recently held its first Parkway Hall of Fame induction fundraiser, they have set up a petition on its website for people to print out and get signatures of support.

"The residents of West Roxbury want to see the Havey Beach area re-opened & utilized as a commuting boating center. Charles River Canoe and Kayak is committed and interested in supplying & maintaining their business there; using the existing boathouse to store boats and gear," says Parkway People's website. "We are the only area within Boston with water front & without community boating. Our neighborhood kids and adults travel across the city for lessons and recreation when we could have it right in our back yard."

State Sen. Mike Rush, D-Norfolk/Suffolk, and state Rep. Ed Coppinger, D-West Roxbury, both West Roxbury residents, have worked in the past to revitalize Havey Beach working with the state and local officials.
