Injured Boston Officer Named Honorary Captain by Patriots

A Boston Police officer, who was severely injured in the line of duty, has been named an honorary captain by the New England Patriots.

34-year-old John Moynihan was critically injured following a traffic stop in Roxbury back in March. He suffered a gunshot wound to the face. The suspect was later shot dead by responding officers.

Moynihan will serve as an honorary captain when the Patriots open up their season opposite the Pittsburgh Steelers at Gillette Stadium on Thursday night.

President Barack Obama recognized Moynihan as one of the Nation’s Top Cops for his service following the Boston Marathon bombings.
