Neighborhood Council Doesn't Support License Transfer for Proposed Liquor Store

The owner of the Town Line Liquor Store needs to gain approval from the Boston Licensing Board to transfer a license to the West Roxbury location.

The West Roxbury Neighborhood Council voted, 5-2, to not support a liquor license to be transferred to a proposed Town Line Liquor Store on the VFW Parkway.

Tuesday night's vote is only a recommendation, and the final say on the transfer of the license from a Roxbury business to the proposed West Roxbury business will be decided by the Boston Licensing Board at a June hearing.

"I voted against it for a few reasons, the main reason being we already have a number of liquor stores in this community and have not heard anyone express the opinion that West Roxbury needs another liquor store," said Smith to Patch. "I didn’t like the image it sends of putting a liquor store in a block of businesses that includes a child care center and we were going to have a business with hours later than the other businesses in that block so the neighbors behind it would be dealing with car traffic noise that they have not had to deal with in the past."
